NR y?

The other day I read an news bit in the CNN IBN website which basically said that a huge group of NRI organisations ( 25 to be exact) have sent a letter to US Secretary of State asking not to issue a US visa to Mr.Narendra Modi.I have some serious doubts in this whole issue.Let me put them down in order:

1] I find this request by the NRI organisations to be particularly disturbing. For the record, Mr.Narendra Modi is the chief minister of Gujarat. It is the tenth biggest in terms of population and seventh biggest in terms of area. Those statistics tell me it is a pretty big state and most likely  an important one too in all regards. The way it looks , the people of the state have voluntarily chosen Mr.Modi to be their representative not once but twice. So that makes him a representative of people of India and to ask the government of another country to judge his moral sensibilities sounds like a big insult to the intellect of the people of Gujarat in particular and the country in general.

2]NRI`s are people who have basically migrated to others countries and have chosen to to live there at least for some period of time.My understanding is that for the period they are outside India, they don’t make any productive contributions to their homeland.(Please let me know if I am wrong on this one, I would really like to know). So when there are no contributions to the development of the country from them, why do they try and meddle with its affairs that too in a foreign land, causing embarrassment to Indian government.(Didn’t any of the leaders of the these organisations read what Vito Corleone always said)

3]The third point which I don’t understand is why does a huge developing country like India offer dual citizenship.I am pretty sure , its offered to serve some purpose.I am hoping it was introduced not only serve the interests of the minority who migrate to other countries but also the interests of majority who are in India.I personally think it would be help the country more if the citizenship of the people, who apply for  one in other countries, is revoked. That would ensure that people who pursue higher education in developed countries don’t  end up getting settled there but instead come back and work for developing India.

If I am looking at the whole thing in the correct perspective then I think its about time something needs to be done but if  it is ignorance that is the cause for my opinions even then I see the need for something to be done because I personally know a lot of young people who share a similar opinion on these issues and that’s not good.

The Nuclear Drama

Its really difficult to remain a spectator to the events currently taking place in regard to the Indo-US nuclear deal in India. Its high time, now that the current republican USA government has  assured its support to the deal for the millionth time, that the Left and the other political parties look at the deal in a more objective way and show more optimism in terms of its execution and attainment of goals associated with the deal for our country.

Frankly speaking, I am surprised and even proabably a bit shocked to see the members of left party ,who in their own right can claim to be highly educated and scholarly, are resorting to outright public display of kid-like stubborness to accept the merits of the deal especially when the whole country is staring down the barrel of an impending energy crisis.I guess being a novice to the politics in India does not help me deal with the feeling any better.

But even in the light of the heavily preached customary prejudice towards politics( read as “dirty profession”)  in our country, what hurts the most about the stance the left and all the other parties are taking against the nuclear deal is the attitude they have. What I exactly mean is that for a party like the Communist party and people as learned as members of polit beaureu, both of which aspire to be a part of  the decisions being made by the central government and hence affecting all the people of the country, to have such a pessimistic attitude towards the deal and if I may extend without much loss of generality, in ruling a country when it is at the verge of a better tomorrow just seems like very incongruous.

The fact that the opinion of most of the  important people related to the deal and in the country  is not being given any consideration paints a even more dimmer picture for a  general citizen like me.Its high time I think all the political parties come to a consensus (hopefully a positive one) on the deal and take the right step forward not just keeping in mind the current energy crisis but also the vision for the future generations of our country.
